Learn About Sarah

This story is long, but hang in there with me…

This story starts with my own health journey. When I was 15 years old I had emergency surgery which lead to a large incision on my abdomen, one large cyst of unknown origin, 1 less appendix and multiple days in the hospital. I would go on to recover as most 15 year olds do, but it really set the stage for more to come.

When I was 18 I developed an antibiotic-resistant strep throat with guttate psoriasis and after 3 months of antibiotics my tonsils were removed. College was full of GI problems and one personal traumatic event. Through these experiences with my own medical endeavors I found a curiosity and passion for medicine. I graduated with a degree in biology and started my path to become a Physician Associate.

PA school wasn’t without its own struggles. During my time there, I encountered chronic stress like I have never experienced before complimented with mood swings, depression and worsening GI upset. But the real kicker was once I graduated PA and was working in the field…

I was working 60-100 hours a week, sleeping at the hospital multiple nights per week, getting little sleep, eating nothing or binging on anything, stressed to the gills, developing an auto-immune condition, still dealing with daily GI issues, not exercising (cause who has time for that?!) and flat out burned out. I was a healthcare provider, yet I was living the most UNhealthy lifestyle. Until I found functional medicine. Functional medicine showed me that:

  • Food is the ultimate medicine, not prescriptions.
  • Illness and disease has a root cause.
  • Our genes are not our destiny.
  • Chronic disease is not inevitable.
  • Chronic disease is reversible (🤯).
  • I can do so much better for my health and the health of my patients!

You may be wondering: cool, cool, cool, Sarah, but what does this have to do with me and my health journey?! Well, my point is this: I wasn’t born healthy and happy. Events throughout my life, from antibiotics use as a child, surgeries, trauma, stress, infections etc. have all contributed to my health. It took addressing all these parts of my life to start to find greater health and wellness for myself. And the same thing can happen for you. Your current health does not have to be your future. I have dedicated a lot of hours and continue to do, learning how to be healthier and happier for me and for my patients. If I can make these changes to better myself for the years ahead, certainly you can too and I am here to help!
